What comment-to-DM does
Someone comments a keyword on your post, such as LINK. Kilat sees the comment and sends them a direct message with what they asked for. You can also post a public reply under the comment before the DM goes out.
You choose what it watches: one specific post or reel, every post and reel, or the next post you publish.
What you need
Comment-to-DM is a PRO feature. If your trial ends and you do not upgrade, the account becomes Free: your Superlink and products keep working and the automation pauses.
- An Instagram Business or Creator account.
- That account connected to Kilat. Kilat asks for permission to read and send messages and to view and reply to comments.
- The PRO plan, or the 14-day PRO trial that every new account gets when onboarding finishes. The trial needs no card.
- Something to send, such as a product page, your Superlink or a lead magnet.
Add a follow gate
A follow gate asks people to follow your account before they get the link. In the DM Content step, turn on Require them to follow first. Kilat sends a follow request in the DM and delivers your reward only after Instagram confirms the follow.
By default the person sees an Open profile button and a confirm button that says Done, I followed. If Instagram does not show a follow yet, they get a retry message and can try again. You can edit these messages and set how many retries people get. Follow-gated DMs are part of PRO.
Tips for better results
- Say the keyword in your caption or video, for example: Comment LINK and I will send it to you.
- Pick one short keyword in capitals. Contains matching is the default, so a comment like send the link still matches LINK.
- Use Exact match only when you want to ignore longer comments.
- Add a public reply such as Check your DMs. It tells the commenter the message is on its way.
- Keep the DM short: a line on what they get and one button with the link.
- Add excluded keywords if some comments should never trigger a DM.
- Test with a second account before you announce it.
Meta rules to respect
Instagram limits automated DMs to people who have recently interacted with your account. Kilat works inside those limits.
- A comment lets you send one automatic DM to that commenter, within 7 days of the comment.
- A story reply or a DM from the person opens a 24-hour window for replies.
- Only message people who commented or messaged you. Unprompted DMs to people who have not engaged are not allowed.
- Do not use it for spam or misleading offers. Meta can restrict accounts that do.
- When a reel gets a burst of comments, DMs go out gradually over a few minutes.
- Meta changes its rules from time to time, so check Meta's current policy for your account.
How to set up comment-to-DM on Kilat
Check your account type
Comment-to-DM needs an Instagram Business or Creator account. If yours is still personal, switch it in your Instagram account settings first.
Open Instagram Automation and connect
In Kilat, open Explore All Apps and choose Instagram Automation. Select Connect Instagram Account, sign in to Instagram in the window that opens, and approve access with Allow & Connect. If no window opens, allow pop-ups for kilat.bio.
Start an AutoDM from Comments
Open the Automations tab, select New Automation, and choose AutoDM from Comments. A five-step wizard opens.
Select the post
In Select Post, choose Specific Post/Reel, Every Post/Reel or Next Post/Reel. Next Post/Reel waits for the next post you publish and attaches to that one.
Set the keyword and a public reply
In Comment Trigger, choose Specific keyword and type your keyword, for example LINK. You can also add a public reply that Kilat posts under the comment before the DM goes out.
Write the DM
In DM Content, write a short message and add a button with your link, such as a product page or your Superlink. On a large screen, a phone preview next to the form shows what the commenter will see.
Add a follow gate or a follow-up if you want one
In DM Content, turn on Require them to follow first to send the link only after the person follows you. The Follow Up step can nudge people who do not reply.
Review, launch and test
In Review, name the automation, check the summary and select Launch. Then comment the keyword from a second account and confirm the DM arrives.
